SUMMARY OF THE SUGGESTION
The administration of historical and civilization
monuments as common goods by the society itself
The
historical monuments consist a common cultural heritage and consequently they
belong to all citizens who have the responsibility but also the need to protect
them and even to take advantage of them in favor of the common interest.
However
the capitalism treats the historical monuments too as well as all the peoples’ creations
as merchandises and it tries to gain profits out of them in any means. The
state, which consists a servant of the big enterprises, grants the history and
civilization monuments to individuals for profit-making exploitation, insulting
in this way the moral standing of humanity as a total.
We
the people know however that the monuments our ancestors created consist the
common heritage of all of us and we shall not only not allow their concession to
individuals, but we are also decided to protect and administer them ourselves.
The
Alternative Action (Enallaktiki Drasi) and the Coalition for the Historical
Monuments together with volunteer scientists have created in many areas
citizens’ collectivities which work in common so as to:
a)
Identify the historical monuments, small or big, important or unimportant and
record them.
b)
Make known the local history of each area to all citizens.
c)
Start a substantial dialogue among the citizens in each municipality and in
every neighborhood aiming at protecting the history and civilization monuments
on the one hand and on the other hand at making the local history known to all
locals but being known and admired by the visitors too.
In
this way a real cooperation of people may begin independently of any ideological
or other differences they may have. This cooperation aims at making citizens cooperate
in the administration of the historical monuments so that they contribute to
their protection and optimum use by the society, excluding any possibility of
profit exploitation.
